What a busy boy!!

With all of this warm weather beginning to come to a close, it has really made me think back on the summer. I have reflected on how quickly it went this year. I normally don't send Josh to camp or anything, but this year decided to try it. Having the summer so organized with a different activity each week made it seem to go so FAST!! I didn't like that!!!! Anyway, I really wanted to journal Josh's fun that he had this summer. Someday he will look back on this with fond memories.
  • We started the summer by finishing his baseball season, making it to the playoffs & winning the game ball!

  • The next week Josh went to a really neat place called Strawberry Hill. There were lots of snakes, frogs, bugs & other kinds of "critters". Josh's friend Jacob went with us for the nature walk. It was a very interesting day!

  • The third week of June, Josh went to Peace Camp in Gettysburg. The kids learned about peacemakers in history & how to be peacemakers.

  • The minute that was over, Josh was a "Squire Boy" as his Papaw called him. He went to football camp for a week at Delone Catholic here in McSherrystown. The football team is called the Squires. Papaw & all of Josh's aunts & uncles & cousins went to Delone. Not being Catholic ourselves, Josh will probably not attend Delone. But since all the Grofts went to school there it made Papaw very happy his grandson was a Squire even for just a short time.

  • Next came "Tennis for Kids" over at Southwest. He went every Monday, Wednesday & Friday for 2 weeks in July. His Uncle Mike gave him a beautiful racket. Josh was so excited. From what I am told from EVERYONE, Mike is an AWESOME tennis player. He also gave Lonnie a great racket too so that Josh could practice with him. How nice was that???
  • One of the things Josh was most excited about was Cub Scout camp. He looked forward to that all summer.

  • Thelast week in July was spent at his Grammy & Pappy's house while we went to Texas. That is ALWAYS fun. He went to the movies, swimming, a carnival, golfing, & spent 2 days with the Milams! He loves going there!

  • The first week in August Josh went to swimming lessons. He moved up a level & became a great diver! Josh went to the pool A LOT all summer. We normally tried to go everyday except Sunday, but it didn't always happen. Josh is a "pool rat" as Lonnie calls him. One day he would swim in the day & then go back at night for a pool hop.

  • The week before vacation we got all ready for school. Josh gets so excited when he sees the UPS truck coming. He knows they bring all his new school supplies each year. There are a lot of books this year! Josh LOVES opening all the boxes & seeing what the school has sent. He goes straight for the History books. He wants to see what he will be learning about before the year even starts.

  • AND lastly, our favorite week of the WHOLE SUMMER.......BEACH WEEK!! This was especially fun for Josh this year because the Milams were there the first weekend of our vacation. He LOVED that! Then right after they left my parents brought one of their other grandchildren with them to the beach named Samantha. We LOVE Samantha. She is such a cool kid! And of course, Brent went with us this year & Josh loves him as much as Leah! It was a great vacation for everyone, but especially for Josh. (blogger won't let me post the pics to this post! I'll try later!)
Oh my...... Josh can't say he was bored this summer. This is his first summer to go to any kind of camps. He really enjoyed it. Since he doesn't go to public school it's a great way to make new friends! While other kids are making friends during the school year Josh does that during the summer. It's so neat to go places & have him say, there's so & so from soccer, or football, or baseball or wherever. Josh is Mr. Social & makes friends wherever he goes just like his sister. No one will ever be able to say Josh's social skills were stunted due to homeschooling. That's for sure!
